Last week, I went with the family to a hot air balloon festival. For the sake of staying positive, I’ll leave out the part about how it took us 45 minutes to drive the first 50 miles and 45 more minutes to drive the last half mile. And the part about how a 20 ounce soda was spilled in the backseat of my car.
We ended up having a pretty good time. And I learned a few things:
- Hot air balloons are bigger than I thought
- Barn-shaped hot air balloons take longer to inflate
- I kind of want a flamethrower
- I would only go in one of these things if I was given $100 million American dollars, or if I was knocked unconscious

That barnhouse balloon is my favourite. They must have inflated it with extra awesome, ohhhh yeaaahhhhh.
The ones with the faces however, have just given me a subscription to a lifetime of nightmares.

I think I would have to have both the money, AND the unconscious to go on one. I am just not that brave.

I can only imagine what it’s like to be the guy in the hot air balloon store that says, “No thanks, I’m looking for one that’s shaped like a barn. You got anything like that?”
Also, I’m with Syar on the faces ones. How many children were crying at this place.
Ditto on the flamethrower. Can we make a mock up of this with a modified lighter or 70?

Wow! I thought you were kidding about the barn thing…and I’ve NEVER seen hot air balloons with faces! EEEK!
I’m too chicken to board a stinkin’ airplane! A foolish little basket under a ginormous balloon thing is pretty much out of the question!

we used to be able to see the Eyes to the Skies fest balloons from my parents’ backyard; i think kids get used to the creeptastic balloon faces if they’d been exposed to them early.
the barn is pretty badass.

I wonder if they were trying to create the most illogical balloon possible with the barn. Personally, if I was thinking of good shapes for hot air balloons, a barn would certainly be one of the last.
But at least it has a flamethrower.

really? you wouldn’t want to go in a hot air balloon? sail above the clouds. or IN the clouds? i’ve always wanted to..it always seems so romantic to me. scary. but romantic.
