Oh yeah, I neglected to mention ahead of time that last week and this week are by far the busiest weeks for me at work. All that computer time at work, combined with the 4-month old and 3-year old at home meant less recreational computing time. It also means more gray hairs.
I miss the early summer when there was nothing on TV that kept me up past 10:00.
I won’t get into politics here, but let me ask you this: what’s with presidents being left-handed? The only right-handed president since 1980 is the current president. Both Obama and McCain are lefties. Past candidates John Kerry and Bob Dole, too. And Ned Flanders.
It has come to my attention that some people on the internet believe I should see the movie Napoleon Dynamite. I had a cleverly crafted response to this in my head on Tuesday, but it was pushed out by a constant barrage of knock knock jokes, which the boy has just learned. I’ll more formally respond later, but I did want to try to acknowledge those efforts within a somewhat reasonable time. And to keep you all up to date, I haven’t seen it yet.

I have to say that I really enjoyed Napoleon Dynamite, and I believe you would find it hillarious. Oh, and “First Post” :).

I’m People! Nobody is people!!
As an experienced mother of a 5-year-old “comedian”, I just want to tell you…IT NEVER ENDS!!!!!!! It can be painful at times. First the endless knock knock jokes and the complete lack of comprehension of the unhilarious orange/banana joke coupled with the incessant need to tell knock knocks about oranges and bananas. Then, there will be a graduation of sorts into nonsensical jokes about umbrellas and socks and frogs. And then you are forced to teach the rule, “funny the first time, stupid the second time, the third time you get slapped.” And then one day, you’ll say in front of company, “Son, what did I say about jokes that use naughty words or are unkind?” and he’ll answer in all earnest, “I’ll get slapped?”
But, to help make your journey somewhat enjoyable, you’ll need to watch this together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bn1-M5Ze0p8

I’m ON? That’s all I get is “ON”??
Come on Omar. You can do it!!!!

Wait until you tells you about seeing a cow get shot as his school bus drives by a field!

That would be “he” tells you
September 5th, 2008
What? You have not watched Napoleon yet?
Hmm.
*grumble* <–stomach grumble

Ah…the knock-knock joke.
Sigh.
This, too, will pass. (Sooner than later, I hope. My son is still in the knock-knock joke stage. Maybe we should start a support group…)

I don’t think they’re left-handed. They’re all secretly ambidextrous. (They all pretend to get the left-hand vote.)
September 5th, 2008
I don’t think it’s fair fo you to tell you the boy barraged you with knock knock jokes and then, just like that, you don’t give us any, what’s up with that?
Ok, you have been working super hard these days, so I’ll give you a break.
I hope the response comes with quotes from the movie and how much you loved it. I wouldn’t tempt that liger any further; they are magic, you know?

Omar, this weekend would be a great time to watch ND. It would help relieve some of that stress you are under. Really.
And the knock knock jokes are just a great part of parenting. If not the greatest!
September 5th, 2008
Sadly, there are no knock-knock jokes in Napoleon Dynamite.

I feel for you, Omar. I’ve never seen it, and really never wanted to.
But that’s just me.
Your public is calling. It’s a mandate from the people, really.

“Your public is calling. It’s a mandate from the people, really.”
Truer words were never written before.
Nobody is people, you can’t deny people.

I don’t think there’s any way that I could watch a movie after this kind of build up and still think it’s as good as everyone says it is. That’s just me though. I watched ND pre-hype. It’s ok. I rarely quote it though. Also, I think you’be been supplied with enough quotes to get the general idea of the movie. Go watch some trailers and you should be all caught up.
Hey, did you know that in Google Chrome, this comment box is size adjustable? I just made it really wide for no apparent reason!

i saw Napoleon Dynamite post-hype and it was nowhere as funny as everyone said it would be. But that’s the problem with hype. I say wait about 2 years until no one ever mentions it again and maybe give it a whirl.
but if you don’t wait, at least all that VOTE FOR PEDRO memorabilia will make sense.

I rented Napolean Dynamite once, because I felt I had to see it. I don’t think I made it all the way through. And I didn’t think Office Space was worth getting that excited over, either.
*ducks to avoid flying tomatoes*
(This is probably why I waited till there was another post up to comment.)
